A photo essay documenting a day in the life of furniture restorer Ray Clarke, celebrating Black UK artisans and their craft.

We travelled to Ray’s studio in East London to observe and capture his process, from detailed restoration work to quieter moments within the workshop.

Shot in a documentary style, the project focuses on the skill, patience, and dedication behind traditional furniture restoration.

The imagery highlights both the technical aspects of the craft and the personal story of the maker, offering an authentic insight into a working studio environment.

The resulting series forms an intimate portrait of craftsmanship, heritage, and the importance of preserving traditional skills within contemporary London. The images are available on Getty Images.
